Nicole Coren

When I was younger, I had a daily routine. I would come home from school, and go straight to my room to draw and color. In elementary school it was coloring books, and tracing. In middle school it was drawing my own designs. In high school, it was on the computer with different web design programs. I would go on the Internet and search for different things to create. The Internet led me to social media. Social media became part of the routine. I would check social media any time I could. All of the social media sites had advertisements on them. This intrigued me. How did they know I wanted a certain pair of shoes? Everything that came up was something I wanted, or something I really liked. I found it fascinating, and I wanted to learn more about it. Senior year of high school I applied to the University of Florida’s College of Journalism for Advertising and was accepted.

In the College of Journalism, I knew I was going to learn so much but I wanted a first hand experience before taking all of the advertising classes. I knew the only way to learn more about it was to get an internship in that field. My first internship was for The Pace Companies. I went to many different business meetings, and met with a lot of business leaders, but the most important part of this internship was creating their website. I created a website to help bring more people to the company in a strategic way. They were the first in their industry to have a customer interactive website. The summer after my freshman year, I interned for a well-known blog. BetchesLoveThis.com was another great experience, along with Sircle Media. During these two internships I was able to see through the consumers eyes. I had to create different advertisements and content to attract consumers. All of these internships came with responsibilities and hard work. This allowed me to realize how important it is to have good advertising and to know how to draw in your customer.

Creative, patient, independent, organized, and determined are all qualities I believe helped me with my advertising major. Throughout college, I knew I wanted to get my Masters. I was unsure of what I wanted to pursue, and I found Web Design. I loved how detailed each design was, and I realized I wanted to learn how to create designs myself. This led me to this program. I am motivated to be the best I can be, and I am always looking to become better at what I do. One day I hope to create Web Designs for large companies. Pursuing my masters in Web Design at the University of Florida has made me more passionate about this goal, and I hope to one day be able to put all of these skills I learned to good use.
